Bananageddon - TR4 is coming
In Year 7, we explored the story of the bananas that we eat, and the finances behind their import. There was a campaign involving Foncho that we explored during Fairtrade Fortnight.
Once again, the news has caught up with us, and in today's Independent newspaper, there was a story about a disease which threatens to wipe out the bananas that we eat.
Panama Disease Tropical Race 4 is the name of the disease, which is spreading through areas where bananas are grown. A scary story for millions of people potentially...

Banana diaries
As part of the unit on Food, we are exploring a food which we eat lots of in the UK: bananas.
Bananas are imported from a number of areas of the world. We've been using a range of apps on the iPads to tell the story of this fruit, which is found in so many people's packed lunches.
There are some useful resources for BANANAS on the CAFOD website, including the nicely illustrated BANANA SPLIT game, which we played through.
Check out the BANANA LINK website too, for example.
Also the FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT is on the theme of Bananas and we now have the education pack from Fairtrade - some groups have already had their FONCHO stickers... Come and find me after half term to get yours...
Here's some music to end the post...

Ready for Fairtrade Fortnight at the end of the month...
