The Arctic

Just too late for our teaching this time round, but saved here for next time round.
A nice introductory video for an Arctic project from the Wicked Weather Watch website.
With thanks to Emma Espley for the tipoff.

The Women's Euro-Arabian North Pole Expedition 2018

Mr. Parkinson has been asked to help create the education resources for this expedition which will take place in 2018. It is led by Felicity Aston, who also led the Pole of Cold expedition that I wrote the (award winning) resources for, and was also described in Felicity's book 'Chasing Winter' (which is excellent by the way)
Here's a trailer video for the expedition.

_Exposure from Felicity Aston on Vimeo.

The website is here.
Keep an eye out for all the news on the expedition and the resources later this year.
We shall be involving King's Ely students in this writing project.

There are also some amazing and alarming pictures of the great Arctic melt by Diane Tuft in this Guardian article.

Greenland

A great presentation with some stunning images from a trip to Greenland made by "two old teachers".... one of whom is Alan Doherty, a 'colleague' of Mr. P's from Scotland...

Would be great to organise a field trip here...

Weapons of Reason - the Arctic

This is a rather wonderful magazine now out of print. I used some sections with Year 8 for the Arctic work, and we will carry on with this next year...

Northern Sea Route

We explored the growing use of the Northern Sea Route at the end of the term, using a range of resources. There was an article from 2013 (which we used at the time) describing the route of the Yong Sheng.
A new page has been placed on Firefly to hold the other resources relating to this new route for freight to travel from Chinese factories to the European markets.
Here's a short film on some of the goods that may be heading here via the Northern Sea Route in future years...

We'll also be using some of the materials from an excellent magazine published by Weapons of Reason which I got before the Christmas break, and have managed to read some of in the last few weeks.
