Lightning... getting more common...

BBC News story from yesterday had an interesting link to the work that Year 9s have been doing on risk.
It talks about the increasing risk of being struck by, or killed by, lightning.

Lightning is an atmospheric phenomenon, which means that this comes under the category of a meteorological hazard. It's also a fairly worldwide risk - are there any parts of the world where lightning doesn't happen ?

Is the increasing risk to do with more storms or just more people ?
