An excellent selection of images was sent to me last week, which show the lengths that some young people have to go to in order to travel to school...
They show children climbing long ladders, crossing swollen rivers on precarious bridges and taking vehicles which are overloaded, or don't look particularly safe.
One of the sets of images shows Zanskar, and a frozen river which has to be traversed by students travelling to their school for the start of the new term / year.
This featured in the Human Planet series, and is also the subject of a resource written for the Royal Geographical Society's 'From the Field' project.
How extreme is your journey to school ?
