Sunny Hunny

I spent the day in Hunstanton in the sun last Friday with 45 Year 4 students and six colleagues from KEP.

This was a good way to spend the day, exploring what makes it a special place.

Life on the Edge

With Year 7, we are currently exploring coastal processes and how they remove material from the coast, with the aid of videos from the Time for Geography folks.

New on iPlayer as of a few minutes ago is this 27 minute documentary on events at Hemsby on the Norfolk coast.

Worth a watch.

The residents of Hemsby don't want to leave, but their houses are on the edge of a cliff. This is their story of surving one of the most dramatic cases of UK coastal erosion.

Winterton Beach Cafe

Sharing the story of this cafe today with students. 

Sadly, it will be demolished tomorrow, but you can see in this dune footage just how much sand was removed by recent surges.

Coastal Erosion and Happisburgh

Which areas of coastline are most at risk from erosion?

The Environment Agency has created these maps which allow you to zoom into areas of coastline and see to what extent they have been defended.

The insurance company Confused.com has been busy producing assessments of which communities around the coast are most at risk of erosion. Click on one to see a simple map, some data about the settlement, along with an animation of the rate of erosion over the next few decades.



At number one is Happisburgh.
