It won a GA Award.

First class Fish...

A new set of stamps from the Royal Mail features 10 fish, to show some sustainable species, and others that are threatened. Lovely illustrations.
Did any of these species feature in your menu that was good for the planet ?
Which fish species would you put on stamps if you could choose...

From sea to plate...

An interesting set of photos in the Guardian follows the story of a turbot from sea to plate.

We explored the different ratings on some fish for their sustainability.
Cod has a rating of 4, which means stocks are low, and other fish could be eaten instead.
Turbot has a rating of 3 if line caught, so is a better option.

This illustrated photo story approach could be used in other projects, for example our research of our items that we have been carrying out.

Plenty more Fish in the Sea ?

Year 7s have been using the Sustainable Fishing resource that I wrote a while back for Digital Explorer. It has lots of fun videos and other resources that go along with the teacher materials.

Here's Jack's awesome illustrated notes from the videos on the decline in fish stocks in the North Sea.

We use the Digital Explorer Sustainable Fishing pack, which explores the issues relating to Sustainable Fishing.

You will be contributing at least one fish to our 'fishy' EU flag.

Each fish needs to have information related to one of the following questions.

The fish needs to have an answer to the question as well as the question itself…

1. What is happening to fish stocks in the North Sea ?
2. What are quotas and why were they introduced ?
3. What are the main methods by which fish are caught ? Which are the most sustainable ?
4. What is aquaculture. Which fish are involved, and what problems are there with it ?
5. What is meant by over-fishing and how can the problem be reduced ?
6. What are the more sustainable species of fish that we should be eating more of, and which fish should we be eating less of ?
7. What has happened to the numbers of UK fishermen ?
8. What is fish dependence day – when does it happen ?
