Danny MacAskill and the Eclipse
Good to see so many of you out on the mound yesterday looking at the eclipse.
Here's a picture of our old friend Danny MacAskill at an amazing place called the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye, that was taken yesterday apparently.

Year 7: Planning a trick for Danny
Watch a few YouTube clips of Danny MacAskill if you want, to get a flavour for the tricks that he does.
This was the one we watched...
Remember that he sees the world differently, and takes risks.... he is an explorer and also needs specialist equipment to do his job.... like a Geographer...
Plan 3 tricks for Danny on the KEJ site for prep.
You can use a hand-drawn map - remember to identify any symbols you use, such as a dashed line for a cycling section, an up arrow for jumps etc.
You could also use annotated photographs taken on an iPad or phone before school starts.
Or use Digimap for Schools to create your own base map of the school site.

It creates a close-up map of the school site for you to draw on. Here's the area that's just outside N2 for example that we went out and had a look at...

Year 7s will be exploring Adventure Landscapes.
There'll be plenty of mapping and landscape-related stuff, as well as plenty of UK-based exploring.
The first few lessons will be a mixture of Danny MacAskill (as last year) and also some Simon Jones related questioning...
Plus this Vimeo timelapse beauty to kick things off.

On your marks...
I spent time marking my first set of prep last evening..
Some really good maps showing potential places where Danny MacAskill could do his tricks on the school campus, and what form they could take - this after watching several of his videos, particularly the one below:
Remember that we have new guidelines for how we will be marking your work in Years 7-9, and there are more detailed criteria for marking specific key assessments which we will share with you nearer the time.
Each piece of prep will have a feedback form attached to it for which will provide some additional tasks to complete, and ideas for what you should aim to do in your next prep in order to improve the marks that you have been given. Remember that prep is intended to keep you thinking about the main ideas that have been covered in the lesson, and prepare you for the next one.
We will also be using stampers to mark your work in KEJ, and provide further guidance to you on areas that might need some attention, or congratulate you on meeting particular objectives. Again, these are visual aids to help you identify recurring areas that you can work on, so that you can bring all of your work up to the highest standards.
Remember also that most of the prep you will get in geography will have the potential to be completed in creative ways. We won't always tell you every possible option for how it can be completed, but you should feel free to surprise us and go the extra mile. There are plenty of options for rewarding those of you who do...
