New Lego minifigures

We're looking forward to getting our hands on these new series figures: an Antarctic tourist with Penguin, and a walker with map and compass - great stuff!

Year 6 Taster Day

Today was Year 6 taster day. There were 4 groups of around 20 students who I had during the day - some internal students, and others who were visiting for the day for a taste of the school.
We were looking at the idea of exploration and wanted to get the students being creative. The original idea was for them to be outside, but persistent rain during the day put paid to that idea.
Here's the activity we used.
You will need the Lego Learn to Learn Education pack if you want to use that part of the activity, or a lego minifigure per person / group if not...

Lego - photo challenge

You may remember last year that the Daily Mail had a Lego give-away and I encouraged you to get an Arctic explorer figure to use in our lessons, or as a prop in films. The give-away is back, and there are 2 relevant sets this time: the tractor for Year 7s (Wednesday) and the city bin lorry for Year 8 (Thursday) - food and 'stuff'...

Merits to those KEJ students who send me a photo of their new vehicle in an appropriate setting...

Summer post 5: Lego on the beach...

There are currently thousands of shipping containers floating around the world's oceans, which have been lost from ships.
Some of them have captured the imagination of people because of their contents and the way that they are being spread around the world. This includes the container full of bath toys that was turned into the book Moby Duck.
If you're down on Perran beach in Cornwall, keep an eye out for Lego pieces.
