Flexitarianism

Flexitarianism is a move towards being more flexible with diet, and cutting down on meat.
There are some shorter-term moves like 'Veganuary' (the recent Gregg's Vegan Sausage Roll got a lot of media coverage, and students were familiar with the story)

"Earthquakes don't kill people..."

King's students know the end to that quote... "buildings do."

Here, just too late for the Year 11 mocks sadly is a nice illustrated piece on the BBC's Future site, which explores how technology can be used to protect skyscrapers from damage in the event of an earthquake. Excellence for resilience and mitigation.

A lot of shaking going on...

We have a seismometer in school, which is connected to the global seismometer network. It is located in a courtyard in the Senior school near the Physics Department.
In November 2018, there was an earthquake on the Jan Mayen Islands, north of Iceland and the seismometer picked it up very clearly. Magnitude 6.8.

Blogging break - see you in 2019

I'm going to take my traditional Christmas blogging break, and be back in the New Year, unless there are some events that I can't avoid blogging about... I've just had four days on the coast - lovely to be one of the few occupied vans on the site this week - got some further time away organised, and also some writing time, and plenty of family stuff planned... and my birthday too.

As usual, here's a Christmas illustration from one of my favourite artists: Ronald Lampitt.
And here's an extra one this year... a very apt cartoon...
