Food Security

Year 9 will be exploring the theme of Food Security for the next half term. This is a unit based on a chapter written by Mr. Parkinson for the OCR B GCSE textbook that will be used in Year 10 by those of you opting for GCSE Geography courses, and a unit that is hosted on the Geographical Association's website. Here's an EU factsheet. (PDF download)
Food Security is an area of increasing concern, as a number of factors are leading to changes in the amount of food being produced (and wasted)
We'll be working with this definition:

Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and. healthy life”
( World Food Summit, 1996)
