Dan's Wild Cities Walk

Dan Raven Ellison completed many changes last year, but one of them was to walk across all the cities and National Parks in the UK.
This involved over 2.4 million steps.

Dan wore a special headset as he was walking which was able to record his emotions, and the data from those trips is going to be released later this year.

We're looking forward to Dan visiting King's Ely later in the year.

One of the great benefits of this micro-blogging tool is that you can share a story that catches your eye, or that you'd like to come back to when you have more time, but you can make those public to others. The social bookmarking tools like delicious did this, but with less interactivity and networking potential.

Food Security

Year 9 will be exploring the theme of Food Security for the next half term. This is a unit based on a chapter written by Mr. Parkinson for the OCR B GCSE textbook that will be used in Year 10 by those of you opting for GCSE Geography courses, and a unit that is hosted on the Geographical Association's website. Food Security is an area of increasing concern, as a number of factors are leading to changes in the amount of food being produced (and wasted)
We'll be working with this definition:

“Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and. healthy life”

It's now 4 years since I had my book 'The Ice Man' published by Collins. It's still available to buy here if you'd like to....

I've been following the Facebook page of the Ice Man museum, and they have some interesting additional updates on the stories that are being revealed by scientific analysis of the Ice Man's body.

It now seems that there is going to be a movie of Otzi...

Rob Greenfield and the Trash Suit

Rob Greenfield is an activist and explorer, who talks about food waste and related issues.
He has just finished a project where he created a TRASH SUIT, which contained all the trash that he created in a 30 day period (not including toilet paper)
It acted as a visual reminder of the things that we all produce within that period of time. and often throw away without thinking about the fact that 'there is no away'...
