One problem with favelas and similar settlements in other countries is the lack of sanitation.

This could be one solution to that problem. It has been around for a few years now, and was first proposed around the time of World Water Day. We saw Kevin McCloud in 'Slumming it' (have you watched the rest of the video yet ?) and he followed the sewage pipes into the slum.

One square mile housing a million people will produce a rather large amount of human waste...

In the slums of Kibera, as described by Bill Bryson in his 'Africa Diary', there are 'flying toilets', which are a major problem...

Remember that there will be questions relating to the impact of urbanisation on the exam.

Urbanisation is an increase in the proportion of people living in cities (it is not necessarily an increase in the number of people, as there may be a related increase in the population of rural areas too...)
