Summer term about to start

Enjoy the final few days of the Easter break.
We are about to start a very busy Summer term in the King's Ely Geography Department, with a busy four months as we head towards July and the end of term.

Year 7
We have some work on FOOD to finish off first, with our menus that are good for the world handed in in the first week back so that they can be assessed. Remember that you have been given the criteria for how these will be marked.
There are exams to prepare for, which will include questions on food, reports to receive, and also a new unit of work which is based around a national competition.

The Young Geographer of the Year competition has been organised by the Royal Geographical Society. The details of the competition can be read HERE. You can also see some of the winning entries from last year here.

The theme for this year's entries is 'How can Geography help you ?' and we will be exploring that theme, and everyone will be writing an entry.
There are some great prizes that can be won.
We will also be doing some more work outside as the weather improves, and doing some work using Digital mapping.

Year 8
After our ROSES assessment has been completed, we will be moving onto a new unit on the theme of WALLS.
This will link in to the exam, and there are some final reports to receive too. The WALLS unit is based on the idea of division and boundaries.
There are lots of places in the world where boundaries cause problems.
Can you think of any famous boundaries marked by walls in locations around the world ?

Year 9

You will be going through the final assessed piece on the topic of ENDANGERED BIOMES. This will take us to landscapes and environments which will be familiar to you, and others that will be unfamiliar.

Year 10, 11, 12 and 13

The best of luck for your exam preparations, the actual exams themselves and end of term work that some of you will be doing.

As always, over the Easter holiday, there has been plenty of Geography happening. There was a terrible avalanche on the slopes of Mount Everest, which killed a number of sherpas, there were earthquakes in Rutland, and the search continues for the missing Malaysian plane.

A merit to any King's Ely pupil who finds me in the first few days of the new term, and tells me about a Geographical story that occurred over the Easter break.
A merit to anyone in Year 8 who is the first to tell me of a particular WALL that is famous, or important.
