I love the title of this newspaper article from 'The Guardian' which asks the question 'can insects feed the world ?'
Recently we had the synthetic 'Quarter Million Pounder' burger, and food is again in the spotlight with comments made by , there is no shortage of interest in this vexed problem. As the world's population continues its inexorable rise, how will we continue to feed them ?
In the entrance to King's Ely Junior school there is a shopping trolley which holds donations for the Ely Foodbank. There are always new donations coming into the trolley, and it is regularly emptied and donations are taken down to the Foodbank.
Students have visited the Ely Foodbank in the past and this featured in the school magazine recently. Foodbanks were also the subject of some ill-informed comments by an Education-related minister recently.
It's good to see Food being discussed as a world issue. We also had it mentioned by Mr. Whymark in the Junior School assembly in recent weeks...
Year 7 students at King's will be exploring FOOD in a lot more detail later in the year when we move onto our 'You are what you eat' unit....
